A CoTweet is a co-authored Tweet that’s posted simultaneously to both authors' profiles and their followers’ timelines. You’ll recognize a CoTweet when you see two authors’ profile pictures and usernames in the header. CoTweets help authors share the spotlight, unlock opportunities for engaging new audiences, and enhance their established partnerships.

When two authors decide to CoTweet, the first step is to finalize the content they’d like to share. We recommend using Direct Messages to collaborate. 

Once the messaging is ready, one author creates the CoTweet and initiates an invite to the co-author. When the co-author accepts the CoTweet invitation, the CoTweet immediately posts to each author’s profile and both of their followers’ timelines.  

Open the Tweet composer. Add the co-authored messaging and tap the CoTweet icon. Select a co-author from your follower list and tap Send invite.

CoTweet content can’t be edited or adjusted after a CoTweet invite is sent. 

If you need to change a CoTweet’s content after sending an invite, you can delete the CoTweet and start again. 

After a CoTweet invite is sent, the co-author can accept or decline the invitation.

If the CoTweet is accepted by the co-author who received the invite, the CoTweet posts to each author’s profile and both of their followers’ timelines.  

If the CoTweet invite is declined, the CoTweet invite is deleted. 

You can send CoTweet invites to people that follow you and have public accounts.

Since only two authors can appear on a CoTweet’s header at once, you can only invite one co-author per CoTweet. 

You can send as many CoTweet invites as you’d like.

While a Tweet has a single author, a CoTweet has two authors (or author and co-author) that share ownership and audience. Other similarities and differences include:

Retweet: Anyone on Twitter can ReTweet a CoTweet
Quote Tweet: Anyone on Twitter can Quote Tweet a CoTweet. Two authors can also Quote Tweet together.

Pin: Only the CoTweet author who sent the invite can pin the CoTweet to their profile. 

Threads: Only the first Tweet in a thread can be a CoTweet

Links, Polls and media: Like standard Tweets, CoTweets can include Polls, gifs, photos, videos, and links to Communities, and Spaces.

Promotions: You cannot promote a CoTweet

Conversation controls and author moderated replies: The CoTweet author who sent the invite can manage these.

CoTweets can’t be shared in Twitter Circle, Communities or Super Follows-only Tweets. 

Spaces hosts can pin a CoTweet to their Spaces if they are the author who initiated the CoTweet. 

You can block any account from sending you a CoTweet request by using Twitter’s block feature. Blocking an account stops it from interacting with you on Twitter in any way, including sending CoTweet invites. 

Cotweet author who sends the CoTweet invite:

If you’re the  author who initiated the CoTweet, you can delete the CoTweet like any other Tweet.

Co-authors

If you received and accepted a CoTweet invitation and later change your mind about wanting to be a co-author of that CoTweet, you can revoke the CoTweet once it’s published via a new field in the Tweet menu. The CoTweet will become a regular Tweet by the original author.

Revoking the CoTweet will: 

Remove your username from a CoTweet after it’s published. 

Remove the CoTweet from your profile.

Remove the CoTweet from your followers’ timelines.

Revoking the CoTweet will not:

Keep the Tweet from appearing (without your username) on the profile or followers' timelines  of the author who initiated the CoTweet invite.

If the CoTweet author who sent the initial invite deactivates their account, the CoTweet will disappear from both authors’ profiles. 

If the CoTweet co-author who accepted the initial invite deactivates their account, the co-author’s username will be removed from the CoTweet header, and the CoTweet will become a Tweet. 

If the CoTweet author who sent the initial invite protects their account, only the followers of the CoTweet author will still see the CoTweet.

If the CoTweet co-author who accepted the initial invite protects their account, the CoTweet remains as is. 

If someone invites you to co-author a Tweet, you’ll receive a DM and a notification that you were invited to CoTweet. At this time invitations don't expire.

The CoTweet author will receive a notification when their invite was accepted or declined and published or deleted.

If you sent the CoTweet invite

Cancel the Invite: 

Navigate to your Direct Messages, select the invite, select cancel. 

If you received the CoTweet invite:

Decline the invitation:

Navigate to your Direct Messages, select the invite, select decline.
