About your For you timeline on X

What's in your For you timeline

For you serves posts from accounts and Topics you follow as well as recommended posts. You’ll also see features that help you manage your For you timeline.

Accounts and Topics you follow

  • Your For you timeline displays a stream of posts from accounts you have chosen to follow on X. You may see suggested content powered by a variety of signals.
  • You can choose between your For you or Following timelines. For you shows posts based on recommendations of accounts you follow or topics you’re interested in. Your Following timeline displays posts from only the accounts you follow.
  • When you close X on the For you or Following tabs, you will return to whichever timeline you had open last.
  • You may also see content such as promoted posts or Reposts in your timeline.

About content you may see from outside your network

Additionally, when we identify a post, an account to follow, or other content that's popular or relevant, we may add it to your timeline. We select each post using a variety of signals, including how popular it is and how people in your network are interacting with it. We make recommendations to make it easier and faster to find content that contributes to the conversation in a meaningful way, such as content that is relevant, credible, and safe. This means you will sometimes see posts from accounts you don't follow. We recommend posts to you based on who you already follow and Topics you follow, and don’t recommend content that might be abusive or spammy. We share recommendations via push notifications, your Notifications tab, and by adding them to your For you timeline.

Sometimes, replies in a conversation are not shown in chronological order. We strive to show you the content that we think you’d be most interested in and contributes to the conversation in a meaningful way, such as content that is relevant, credible, and safe. When ranking a reply higher, we consider factors such as if the original post author has replied, if a reply is from someone you follow, or if the person is a X Blue subscriber.
