How to use Twitter Lists

Twitter Lists allow you to customize, organize and prioritize the Tweets you see in your timeline. You can choose to join Lists created by others on Twitter, or from your own account you can choose to create Lists of other accounts by group, topic or interest. Viewing a List timeline will show you a stream of Tweets from only the accounts on that List. You can also pin you favorite Lists to the top of your Home timeline so you never miss a Tweet from the accounts that are most important to you.
 

How to discover Lists

In your Home timeline on the Twitter for iOS and Android apps, you might see a prompt to Discover new Lists. If we suggest a List to you that’s of interest, simply tap Follow. From the prompt, you can also tap Show more to browse through our Lists discovery page. There, we will show you more Lists we might think you’d like to follow and you can search for additional Lists in the search box at the top of the page. 

We’ll also show you top Tweets from the Lists you follow right in your Home timeline.

How to create a List
Step 1

In the top menu, tap your profile icon.

Step 2

Tap Lists.

Step 3

Tap the new List icon 

Step 4

Select a name for your List, and a short description of the List. List names cannot exceed 25 characters, nor can they begin with a number. The default setting for your List is public (anyone can follow the List). To make the List only accessible to you, drag the slider next to Private to on.

Step 5

Tap Done.

Step 1

In the top menu, you will either see a navigation menu icon  or your profile icon. Tap whichever icon you have, then select Lists.

Tap the new List icon 

Step 3

Select a name for your List, and a short description of the List. List names cannot exceed 25 characters, nor can they begin with a number. The default setting for your List is public (anyone can follow the List). To make the List only accessible to you, tap the checkbox next to Keep private.

Step 4

Tap Save.

Click on Lists in the navigation bar.

Click the Create new List  icon at the top.

Click Next.

You can then search for people and add people to your List.

How to add or remove people from your Lists
Step 1

In the top menu, tap your profile icon.

Step 2

Tap Lists.

Step 3

Tap the List you want to edit.

Tap Members.

Step 5

Tap the more icon  on an account’s profile.

Step 6

Tap the accounts you would like to add or uncheck the accounts you'd like to remove the List.

Step 1

Tap the more icon  on an account’s profile.

Step 2

Select Add to List. (You don't need to be following an account to add them to your List.)

A pop-up will appear displaying your created lists. Tap the checkbox next to the the Lists you would like to add the account to, or uncheck the Lists you'd like to remove the account from.

Step 4

To check to see if the account you wanted to add was successfully included in that List, navigate to the Lists tab from the top menu. Tap the desired List, then tap Members. The account will appear in the List of members.

Select Add or remove from Lists. (You don't need to be following an account to add them to your List.)

How to see what Lists you're on
You can view which Lists you are a member of through your Lists tab.

NOTE: To remove yourself from a List you will need to block the creator of that List.

How to remove yourself from a List
You can view which Lists you are a member of through your Lists tab. To remove yourself from a List you will need to block the creator of that List following the instructions below:

Tap Lists you’re on.

Step 5

Tap on the List you want to remove yourself from

Tap on the more  icon next to the share button

Step 7

Tap Block next to the profile handle (@HANDLE)

1. Go to your profile

2. Tap 3 dots 

3. Select Lists you're on

4. Click on List

5. Block @username

1. Click the Lists tab from the Navigation menu. 

2. Click the More icon next to the new List icon .

3. Click on  Lists you’re on.

4. Click on the List you want to remove yourself from.

5. Click on the More icon  next to the share button.

7. Click Block next to the profile handle (@HANDLE) 

 


To share a List
 

1. Go to the List you'd like to share.

2. Use the share icon ( on iOS, web, and Android) from the top right of the List’s detail page, and choose from:

  • Copy link to List
  • Send via Direct Message
  • Tweet this
     

To view Tweets from a List

  1. Go to your Lists tab.
  2. Click or tap the List you'd like to view.
  3. You'll see a timeline of Tweets from the accounts included in that List.
     

To edit or delete Lists
 

  1. Go to your profile page.
  2. Click or tap the Lists tab.
  3. You will see Lists you've created and other people's Lists you follow under the Follow tab.
  4. Click or tap on the List you'd like to edit or delete from the Lists you've created. Click or tap Edit to update your List details. 
  5. If you want to add or remove people from your List, tap Edit List, and then select Manage members. Add members by using the search box, and delete members to remove them from the List entirely.
  6. To delete a List, click or tap Delete List. 
     

To follow other people's Lists
 

  1. Tap the more icon  on an account’s profile.
  2. Tap View Lists.
  3. Select which List you'd like to follow.
  4. From the List page, click or tap Follow to follow to the List. You can follow Lists without following the individual accounts in that List.
     

To add/remove Lists to your Home timeline
 

  1. Go to your profile icon menu.

  2. Click or tap Lists.

  3. You will see Lists you've created and other people's Lists you follow.

  4. Tap the  icon to add a List to your Home timeline. 

  5. Swipe right to access them from your Home timeline.

  6. Add up to 5 Lists. 

  7. To remove a List, under Pinned, tap the  icon to un-highlight the pushpin and it will be removed from your Home timeline. (Note: This will not delete the List.) 
     

To reorder pinned Lists
 

  1. Go to your profile icon menu.
  2. Click or tap Lists.
  3. You will see Lists you've created and other people's Lists you follow.
  4. Click or tap Edit.
  5. Press and hold on the reorder icon on the right side of the List cell and drag the List into the desired position.
  6. Click Done to submit the new order. You should see your changes reflected in your Home timeline.
