About Top Articles

What is Top Articles?

Top Articles is a X Premium feature that is a shortcut to the most-shared articles in your network. This feature automatically lists the most-shared articles from people you follow—and people they follow, too—so you can easily find the type of content you want to read.

Tap or click on an article from the list to navigate to it. You can also tap or click the profiles of the people who shared the article to join the conversations it’s creating.

Find Top Articles in your Profile menu

Use the filter button  to set the time frame, and view your Top Articles from the last 1, 2, 4, 8 or 24 hours. The default for this feature is 24 hours.

Find even more relevant content when you click the People they follow tab where you’ll see the most-shared articles from people you follow, plus the people they follow.

Note: If you see a message that No articles have been shared in your network, try following more accounts. Additionally, some publishers may not be included in Top Articles.

FAQs

How does Top Articles work?

Top Articles lets you see what articles your network is sharing. Depending on whether you select the People you follow or the People they follow tab, you’ll see a list of the top articles posted, reposted, or quote posted the most number of times by the people you follow, or by the people you follow plus the people they follow. Top Articles are listed from most to least shared. You can tap or click on the article to navigate to the website where the article was posted. You can also tap or click on the profiles of people who shared the article to see a non-chronological list of the posts, reposts and quoate posts where those articles appeared.

What is the difference between the ‘People you follow’ and ‘People they follow’ tabs?

When you tap or click on the People you follow tab, you’ll see a list of the Top Articles posted, reposted or quote posted the most number of times by the people you follow. Tapping or clicking on the People they follow tab expands your results to include the Top Articles shared by people you follow, plus who they follow. Switch between the two tabs in your Top Articles to find the content you want to read.

How is the Top Articles list under the 'People they follow' tab ordered?

The Top Articles listed under the People they follow tab are generated from the most-shared articles from people you follow, plus the people they follow on X. We select which X accounts to include in determining the list of articles under People they follow by looking at various engagement metrics around the ways people interact with each other on X. Greater interactions between people you follow and people they follow suggests a stronger relationship between you and people you don't follow, resulting in a higher ranking of the articles shown on the People they follow tab.

For example, let’s say you follow someone and regularly reply to their posts. If the person you follow regularly reposts content from a person you don’t follow, we would use that information to determine how interested you might be in the articles posted by the person you don’t follow and reposted by the person you do follow. For each person you follow we select the top 100 people they follow based on these metrics, up to a maximum of 10,000 total. After that, we look at the most posted, reposted or quote reposted articles by those 10,000 people.

Will I have to see content from accounts I blocked or muted if I use the 'People they follow' tab?

No, any accounts you have blocked or muted will not be used in determining which articles or conversations you see in your People they follow list.

Will I see content I may not want to see?

Because People they follow includes posts by accounts you follow, plus by the people they follow, you may see articles or posts from accounts you don’t follow and content that you have not chosen to see. You can avoid this by not tapping on the People they follow tab option.
