How to broadcast with GoPro and DJI on Periscope

How do I broadcast from my DJI drone?

You can broadcast using DJI drones to show the world what you're seeing from a new perspective.

Requirements

  • iPhone 5S, 6, 6+, 6S, 6S+, or 7 with iOS 8.2 or above.
  • DJI Inspire, Phantom 4, Phantom 3 Professional or Advanced, Osmo.

Getting started

  1. Connect your phone to the DJI controller using a USB to a lightning cable.
  2. Turn on the controller and the drone by pressing the On button, releasing, and then pressing and holding again until the light panel is fully lit.
  3. Make sure that the external camera icon is visible.
  4. Open Periscope, then tap the Broadcast Tab to begin your broadcast.

Broadcasting tips

  • Switch between broadcasting from the drone camera and the front-facing camera on your iPhone by double tapping the screen.
  • Try using the Sketch feature to highlight objects of interest from a bird’s eye view.
  • Swipe right during a broadcast to select which camera source you’d like to broadcast from: GoPro, DJI, front-facing iPhone, or back-facing iPhone.
  • You can lock the screen by tapping Lock Screen. Unlock by swiping across the top. This comes in handy if you need to slip your iPhone in your pocket and prevent accidental taps.

How do I broadcast using a GoPro?

You can broadcast your adventures LIVE with a GoPro. To get started, you’ll need an iPhone 5S, 6, 6+, 6S, 6S+, or 7 with iOS 8.2 or above and a GoPro Hero 4 or 5 (Session models are not supported).

Setting up GoPro

  1. Install the GoPro app from the App Store on your iPhone.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your GoPro with your iPhone.
  3. After pairing, go to Settings App > Wifi > Select your GoPro.
  4. Make sure your GoPro is in video mode, then open Periscope and tap the Broadcast Tab to begin.

Broadcasting notes

  • iPhone 5, 5c devices will broadcast, but will not save the broadcast to your camera roll. iPhone 5S and up are fully supported devices.
  • Do not leave the Periscope app while broadcasting. Leaving Periscope will end the broadcast.
  • Swipe right during a broadcast to select which camera source you’d like to broadcast from (GoPro, front-facing iPhone, or back-facing iPhone). You can also double tap the screen to toggle between the iPhone and GoPro cameras.
  • You can lock the screen by tapping Lock Screen. Unlock by swiping across the top. This comes in handy if you need to slip your iPhone in your pocket and prevent accidental taps.
